Everdell (Collector's Edition)

The overview of the game
The purpose of this game is collecting critters and constructions to build your own village under the Evertree! This is a worker placement + deck-building style game.
The game starts from winter, then ends at autumn. When you move on to the next season (you run out of workers and have no cards to play), the workers are returned and you might get a few new cards or activate the effects of cards in your village. The autumn is the most exciting season, since you can play bunch of cards with plentiful resources and workers you’ve been collecting in the previous seasons. At the end of the game, each player counts the whole points of cards in the deck.
The basic actions are:
- Place a worker to get resources
- Play cards (critter or construction)
- Achieve an event (rarely)
To play cards, you need to collect resources, but you also can call critter from related construction. Considering the combo of critter card and construction card is also a fun part of this game. When you achieve events(certain combination of cards or colors), you can get extra points at the end of game. It’s very satisfying if you can collect certain set of cards even i fyou lose the game due to points.
In this collector's edition, the box includes some cards as an expansion. It adds new dynamics to the game. In the extension rules, you have two legendary cards in your hands from the beginning. One is an advanced version of a certain critter card, and another one is an advanced version of the construction card. You can play those special cards by paying a bit expensive cost as usual or you can play the card without paying its cost if you play the usual version of a critter or construction card.
Comments
I love the atmosphere of this game so much! The components are awesome. The gorgeous 3 dimensional tree, whimsical critters and construction cards. I recommend to play a fun critter or forest-ish playlist on Spotify while you playing haha.
There is competition between players to take certain cards or resources first, but overall the game encourages friendly play, and you can find yourself cheering other players when they build something cool!
Because you are limited to playing only 16 cards in your city per game, and there are so many variants, there is a lot of replayability and opportunities for you to challenge yourself to play with different cards every time.
It is also very fun to think about the combo of cards (combination of a critter/construction or collecting the certain color of cards). Even when you cannot get 1st place, you should feel saftisfied after playing.
If you are looking to start exploring mid-weight(not so light and not so heavy) board games, Everdell is very recommended as a starter.
Caution: you need to prepare a large enough table to play! Both for the board and for each player's play area
Tips
We always play by 2 to 4 players, and it works very well for those player counts. When you play for the first time, I recommend this beginner variant! This rule let you get some resources from the beginning, and remove some cards which makes the game a bit complicated, so easy to understand the basic rule. We usually apply this rule to friends who haven't play Everdell before.
We also recommend counting the points at the end correctly, as there is a lot of stuff to count.
